New Window Film Development (Photochromic Window Film)

Photochromic
  • A substance that changes color when exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light, originally being colorless or tinted.
  • When exposed to UV light, the color changes, but it returns to its original state once the UV exposure is removed.
Application Fields
  • Used in sunglasses, polypropylene yarns, plastic products, building materials, cosmetics, stationery, and accessories.
  • Currently under development for window film applications; however, durability degradation remains a major challenge for commercialization.
Challenges in Applying Existing Photochromic Materials to Window Films
  • Current materials suffer from decreased durability due to environmental factors.
  • Products such as sunglasses or accessories are only briefly exposed to external environments, so durability issues are less significant.
  • In development for window film.
Development Goals for Applying Photochromic Materials to Window Films
  • No yellowing should occur during outdoor exposure testing.
  • Improve performance durability by blocking oxygen and moisture penetration.

New Window Film Development (Insulation Window Film)

What Is an Insulation Window Film
  • The insulation window film, produced with domestic technology, is a type of window film applied to glass to maximize heating and cooling efficiency.
  • It blocks solar energy entering through glass during summer and reduces the escape of indoor heat (far-infrared radiation) through windows in winter.
Characteristics of Insulation Film
  • A functional film using multi-layer sputter (metal) thin-film coating technology, providing excellent insulation and heat-blocking performance.
  • Offers visible light control, UV protection, and minimizes breakage and scattering after being attached to glass.
  • Provides privacy protection through external reflection.
Advantages of Insulation Window Film
  • Most window films introduced as insulation films are actually heat-blocking films. They block solar radiation to minimize indoor temperature rise in summer, but heat-absorbing types cannot prevent temperature rise in the film or glass and provide no insulation benefit in winter.
  • Insulation window films are infrared-reflective products that effectively reduce cooling energy use during high summer temperatures. In particular, they reflect indoor far-infrared radiation back inside during winter, minimizing heat loss through windows and maximizing heating cost savings.
